The Sea
by compound complex inthe sea once held this youngster's heart within its mighty bosom.i loved and cherished the sea, stretching outward beyond infinity.
i took to the e'er dreary landscape, the dank surroundings soothing me, enveloping me in crawling mists that were more welcomed to me than the evaporating rays of a cavorting summer sun.i, however, am no longer that pensive lad who found comfort in the dark and cold and deep blue sea.
today, a man in the physical sense, i no longer possess that childlike fascination with my former abode.

Update: Images Now Served in WebP Format
by Simon ini've pushed an update to the image handling so they are now served using the webp format if the requesting browser supports it.
currently that is chrome, opera and android mobile but safari is adding support in the next version and there's hope that firefox and edge will get on board soon.. read more about webp.
webp is a newer image format that can replace jpeg, gif and png but with much better compression rates for the same quality.

Thanks, Simon, for what you are doing. It's much appreciated.
Regarding an earlier post about abrupt changes in JWD on my Apple (at the time of your converting to https), my DELL (Chrome) shows everything on JWD: images, avatars/names, reply box, etc. I learned how to resize photos with Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Apart from each page's loading slowly (pc issue), DELL and Chrome like JWD!
On the other hand, more and more sites are becoming unavailable to me with Safari (Apple) because I cannot upgrade although the prompt is there. JWD, as ever, is not interactive, there are no images, etc. Firefox, the same.
There's nothing on your end to help because my Mac stubbornly refuses to cooperate. The only good part is that the pages load fast and I can zip through the reading part.
Guess I have the best of both worlds considering I'm using 2 very old hand-me-down laptops.
THANKS AGAIN!

Have You Been "Sent to Coventry"?
by compound complex ingreetings, fellow posters:.
if you're from the uk -- or of the pure english expression in another kingdom -- you have probably heard this expression.
i learned it from an elderly english chap.

Thanks, jookbeard and CookieMonster, for responding.
There's a connection, so I read, between Lady Godiva and Peeping Tom and Coventry -- fact and/or fable???

'Strange' Australian Melbourne Baptisms
by darkspilver innot seen this before, or at least haven't registered it before.
maybe it's just a traditional style?.
i mean it's basically a glorified cattle trough?

In The Poisonwood Bible, the pastor who took over the foreign mission had no clue about the natives and their culture. He was impatient and unfeeling. He became angry with them for hesitating to get baptized in the river -- crocodiles!
Or was it alligators?

Greetings and thanks, ZAPPA-ESQUE, Tallon, and Nancy Drew:
It is very nice to see your comments -- and links -- first thing of a Monday morning. I look forward to an upcoming visit to the Pacific coast early fall.
Gratefully . . .

Greetings, Esse quam videri:
So right you are, but, on paper, I am a drama king. I whip a little bit of lather into a frothy meringue and -- it is hoped -- have readers laughing and crying and screaming and . . .
I really like how you made your point, Eqv. You are quite a serious-minded hoot!
Blessings and peace.

THANK YOU, Len!
It's helpful to see the cover once again, with all the vital statistics. Does the original thread still exist in the archives? I hope so, in order to retrace the contributions leading to the final rendering above.
Ann was dear to me, in particular; Nurse Sophie was a kick in the pants; Clarence was a jokester; John was onetime missionary partner to a good friend; Mary was sweet and hardworking; George was . . .
Your insightful point about my relation to them -- the remembrance nestled away somewhere in my cranium till now -- is why I do not regret my time spent as a JW. I could have known these dear people in another time, setting, church . . .
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
